In this recurring column, we'll highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Chicago Sun-Times layoffs, Fujifilm lens reviews, Neat Image and Projecteo.
- Jim Romensko reports the Chicago Sun-Ties has laid off its entire photo staff today, affecting 28 full-time staffers. The Sun-Time explained, "Our audiences are consistently seeking more video content with their news." And reporters will be expected to provide that.
- Thom Hogan has posted individual reviews of all Fujifilm lenses with Nikon 1 lenses up next and m4/3 lenses to follow. With his batched reviews, Hogan said, "Small nuances become very apparent, and it's easier to describe how you might choose certain lenses over others when putting together a set."
- The $39.90 Neat Image 7.4 [MW] adds support for Adobe Photoshop CC (as a plug-in), the Radeon HD 7950 Mac GPU and new NVidia GPUs with CUDA Compute Capability 3.5. It also improves compatibility with Mountain Lion and the Navigator panel and fixes some bugs.
- Projecteo has launched a Web site for ordering its $25.99 matchbox-sized projector that can display nine Instagrams on an $8.99 "wheel" you insert into the device.
