Photoshop CC Drops Additional Plug-Ins Folder Tweet This   Forward This

18 June 2013

According to Jeff Tranberry's Updating/Upgrading to Photoshop CC FAQ on his Digital Imaging Crawlspace blog, Photoshop CC has done away with the Additional Plug-Ins Folder option in the Plug-Ins section of its Preferences. We can, sadly, confirm that.

In a note, Tranberry explained, "We removed the option in preferences to point to a 'Additional Plug-Ins Folder' in Photoshop CC as it caused more problems than it solved."

Apparently that's because Photoshop CC is a major version update, installing separately from Photoshop CS6.

Tranberry reminds upgraders of the preferred plug-in updating procedures:

  • Check the plug-in manufacturer's Web site for the latest version of your plug-in
  • Use the manufacturer's plug-in installer to install their plug-ins
  • Do not manually drag plug-ins from a previous version of Photoshop's plug-ins folder to a newer version of Photoshop's Plug-Ins folder.

Actions. BTW, to bring your Actions over, open the previous version of Photoshop and Save each set you want to try. When you launch Photoshop CC again, just load each set.

Presets. Presets should be upgraded automatically, if you chose that option on the first launch.

The FAQ covers a lot more, of course.

Tranberry is Product Manager, Chief Customer Advocate for Adobe Digital Imaging with a dozen years on the Adobe Photoshop Product Development Team.
