In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at a bad filter fit, diffusing a beauty dish, the iPhone 45s in Patagonia and Akvis social sharing updates.
- In Bad Times with Bad Filters, Roger Cicala investigates a circular scratch appearing on a number of Canon 25-70 f/2.8 Mk II lenses. The culprit? A discount filter.
- Joe McNally mods a beauty dish to soften the light in Re-Diffuse!. "The result is that the light is directional, but not slam dunk hard. It defines the model's face, in more of a caress than a slap of light."
- Austin Mann compares the iPhone 5s to the iPhone 5 after shooting with both in Patagonia for a week. But it wasn't close. "This iPhone 5s beats out the 5 in every camera test and in many ways I prefer it to my dSLR," he concludes.
- Akvis has updated its $69 Enhancer 14.0, $49 Noise Buster 9.0 and $39 Refocus 4.0 [MW] to include Facebook/Twitter/Flickr/Tumblr/Google+ sharing, improved Raw processing with support for new cameras plus plug-in compatibility with Adobe Photoshop CC and Photoshop Elements 12.
