Fujifilm Announces X-T1 Share This on LinkedIn   Share This on Google   Tweet This   Forward This

28 January 2014

Fujfilm has announced the X-T1, its latest X-series body, featuring dSLR handling, mechanical dials and weather resistance in a die-cast magnesium body. It includes a large electronic viewfinder with such a fast display speed that the company claims it's "almost indistinguishable from an optical viewfinder."

Fujifilm X-T1. Handome, familiar and functional.

Details follow but a few things stand out.

The traditional styling of the X-T1 includes not only the EVF hump and substantial grip but the command dials with both front and rear subdials (as on a Nikon dSLR) and six function buttons.

Top dials and rings include controls for ISO, release mode, shutter speed, focus mode and EV. We're just a little disappointed to find discrete buttons where we'd like to see a rotary dial on the four-way navigator.

Top Panel. A hands-on design.

One nice touch is the rotating viewfinder display that relocates exposure settings when you change the orientation of the camera.

Accessories. That styling extends to the extensive accessories designed for the X-T1 as well, starting with the weather-resistent 18-55mm kit lens, Fujifilm's first.

There are two accessory grips available, a slim Assist Grip that also work as a quick-release plate to swap card or battery when on a tripod and a vertical battery grip that does not compromise the unit's weather resistance.

And there's a new compact dedicated flash, apparently included, with a guide number of 11 as well as three other dedicated flashes.

Die-Cast Magnesium. With a weather-resistant kit lens.

WiFi. WiFi features include the ability to remotely control the camera using a smartphone or tablet. And that control includes Touch Autofocus, shutter release for stills and movies, shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, ISO sensitivity, Film Simulation modes, White Balance, macro, timer and flash.

You can also transfer images to your smartphone or tablet or a computer, with some restrictions (like 30-image or 2-GB transfers at a time to phones and tablets).

More. The enhanced autofocus speed is a welcome advance, too. But flash sync tops out at just 1/180 second.
