DxO Updates Optics Pro With Lumia 1020 Support Share This on LinkedIn   Share This on Google   Tweet This   Forward This

29 April 2014

DxO Labs has released Optics Pro v9.1.5 with support for the Nokia Lumia 1020, among the first smartphones with Raw captures, as well as the Canon Rebel T5, Olympus E-M10/Stylus 1 and Nikon Coolpix PP340.

With the Lumia 1020 sensor and lens profiles, Optics Pro can apply "corrections that are perfectly tailored to this mobile phone," the company said. That extends beyond the usual JPEG capture to the camera's DNG captures as well.

The Lumia's Camera app includes an option to capture both a 5-megapixel JPEG and a 38-megapixel DNG file.

Optics Pro has previously not been able to open DNG files. The company explained it considers DNG an output format only.

In fact, when we try to open DNG files created from NEFs, Optics Pro reports the image can't be processed ("since it was taken with a camera that is not supported by this version of DxO Optics Pro"). That's true of v9.1.5, too.

We are, however, able to open a Lumia 2010 DNG in the new version, which instantly turned the nearly black image into a lovely low-light portrait. And we hadn't even applied PRIME noise reduction processing to the image.

In addition to the new camera support, 472 new camera/lens combinations have also been added to the Optics modules library, which totals over 18,000 modules now.

Complete details are in the news release below.

DxO Optics Pro v9.1.5 supports the Nokia Lumia 1020, the first Raw-compatible mobile phone

DxO Optics Pro 9 image processing quality now available for mobile phone expert photography

PARIS, France -- DxO Labs has announced the immediate availability of DxO Optics Pro v9.1.5 for Mac and Windows, the image-processing software of reference for all demanding photographers. This upgrade enables DxO Optics Pro 9 to offer support for the Nokia Lumia 1020, the first smartphone capable of shooting in Raw format.

DxO Optics Pro v9.1.5 also offers support for four additional cameras: the Canon EOS 1200D (EOS Rebel T5), the Olympus E-M10 and Stylus 1 and the Nikon Coolpix P340.

The power of DxO Optics Pro Raw processing for mobile phone expert photographers

Based on highly-specific laboratory calibrations of the Nokia Lumia 1020's sensor and lens, DxO Optics Pro 9 applies corrections that are perfectly tailored to this mobile phone.

In addition, its tool for optimizing exposure and contrast, DxO Smart Lighting, brings out the details in the different light ranges in Nokia Lumia 1020 images -- recovering details in burned highlights and in shadows, even in areas with strong backlighting. Further, DxO Optics Pro 9's revolutionary PRIME denoising technology restores detailed textures even in images taken at high ISO.

These two technologies are a real plus for the Nokia Lumia 1020's Raw images: noise is efficiently reduced and the exposure is optimized, all while preserving colors and details, for perfectly successful interior shots and portraits.

More than 18,000 available Optics Modues

DxO Optics Pro v9.1.5 also benefits from the addition of new DxO Optics Modules: 472 new camera/lens combinations have been added to the library, which today counts more than 18,000 available DxO Optics Modules.

Produced in the laboratory, DxO Optics Modules contain copious information about the characteristics of each camera and each lens so as to be able to automatically correct distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations and lens softness with an unrivaled level of quality.

The capacity of DxO's laboratories enables DxO Optics Pro 9 to quickly offer support for the latest models -- for example, DxO will support the Panasonic Lumix GH-4 and the Sony A6000 in the very near future.
