Two years ago, the team at CandyCam developed the SkyHook robotic camera positioning platform for professionals. And were besieged to develop a portable, lower-cost unit for smaller cameras. So the company launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its SkyHook Mini project.

Highlights of the SkyHook Mini include:

  • Remotely-controlled robotic camera platform suspended over any space by eight cables via four anchor points.
  • Support for high definition cameras under 32 ounces like the GoPro and Virb.
  • Flight times of 20 minutes on the 25.9 volt lithium-ion battery
  • It can be programmed to shoot scripted sequences or flown without a pre-defined path to allow impromptu moments to be captured.
  • 2.4 GHz radio frequency
  • The overhead location of the 22 lb. platform allows the SkyHook Mini an unprecedented range of motion and gives videographers the power to make their vision a reality.get

Expected to list for $2,100, Kickstarter pledges of $1,900 or more will be rewarded with a SkyHook Mini. Estimated delivery is in November.

CandyCam: Rapid-Deploy Aerial Camera Platform

The SkyHook Mini is a camera positioning robot that allows the filmmaker complete aerial control for lighter high definition cameras.

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- The SkyHook changes the way stories can be told and elevates the craft of filmmaking to new heights. Recording live-action events and scripted video sequences is more than a vocation. It's an art form, communicating stories and live events through striking visuals. CandyCam designed the SkyHook to meet the needs of videographers for rapid deployment, flexibility and precision, while addressing many of the limitations of traditional positioning equipment.

  • Ease and Affordability: The SkyHook product line consolidates all the movement conventionally offered by cumbersome sliders, cranes, tracks and dollies into one affordable platform, reducing the time and cost of set up and operation.
  • Increased Range of Movement: All SkyHook models offer a dramatically increased range of stabilized movement, enabling videographers to easily capture complex shots that have, until now, either been prohibitively difficult or required expensive custom rigs.
  • Programmability: All SkyHook models enable videographers to plan, automate and repeat a series of scripted movements, providing the user with an unprecedented degree of flexibility, precision and control.

The SkyHook Mini is a cost-reduced model currently offered exclusively on Kickstarter that provides semi-professional videographers the opportunity to experience a full range of stabilized movement at a fraction of the cost.

Supporting high definition cameras under 32 ounces, the SkyHook Mini is designed to work with the new generation of small cameras that enthusiast videographers are using. The SkyHook Mini is a remotely controlled robotic camera platform suspended over any space by eight cables via four anchor points. It can be programmed to shoot scripted sequences or flown without a pre-defined path to allow impromptu moments to be captured. The overhead location of the platform allows the SkyHook Mini an unprecedented range of motion and gives videographers the power to make their vision a reality.
