In this recurring column (twice today for the first time), we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at an advanced approach to stitching, some amusing Victorian photos, Reimold's free Show Focus Points Lightroom plug-in and Bettany's iPhone cameras comparison.
- In Stitching -- An Advanced Approach, Bernard Languillier details his approach to stitching images together beyond just panoramas. Add in HDR Expose 3.1 to extend the dynamic range of your component images for an even more advanced approach.
- BBC News showcases some amusing Victorian photos selected by Chris Wild, the Retronaut, who has "spent the past year mining the photographic collection of the Woodhorn Museum and Northumberland Archives." Retronaut: The Photographic Time Machine, runs from Sept. 27 to Feb. 22, 2015. Thanks to Richard Simister for the tip.
- Chris Reimold has released a free Show Focus Points plug-in for Lightroom to show focus points of Canon and Nikon dSLR images in the Library module. The 16.7-MB plug-in relies on Phil Harvey's ExifTool, ImageMagick, Jeffrey Friedl's JSON processing and preview processing inspired by Rob Cole. Nicely done.
- Lisa Bettany, co-founder of Camera+ and MagiCam, answers the question, How does the iPhone 6 camera compare to previous iPhone cameras? with a series of comparison shots laid out like test prints. And thanks to a little magic, the slices expand to full frame when you click on them.
