In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at picture editor Jimmy Colton with Joe McNally, a black-and-white film workflow, using the gradient tool for a split filter and a Cicala Samsung NX-1 test.
- In A Good Picture Editor!, Joe McNally describes the breed and praises Jimmy Colton, who interviews McNally in Joe McNally: Lighting The Way.
- Kirk Tuck reveals the Modern Black and White Workflow (at least as he does it in Austin) after reverting to Tri-X for a day.
- Julieanne Kost details Using the Gradient Tool in a Layer Mask in Photoshop, a very handy technique (applicable to Lightroom and other image editors) for darkening skies when you forgot your split neutral density filter.
- In One, Single Samsung NX-1 Test, Roger Cicala compares a Samsung NX-1 and the 16-50mm f2.0-2.8 OIS lens to a Nikon D7100 with a 14-24mm f2.8 lens to see if the Samsung "can run with the big dogs, and it appears that maybe it can."
