DNP has expanded its professional printing lineup with its Wireless Print Server, an Android set-top box running custom DNP software to route print jobs to its DS40, DS80, RX1 and DS620A dye-sublimation printers. Not only does the print server dispense with the usual a network server and router, it also enabled direct printing for "many WiFi enabled devices," the company said.

With support for up to five simultaneous connections, the Wireless Print Server uses a dual-band 802.11 b/g/n protocol to connect to "certain WiFi enabled dSLR cameras, iOS phones, Android phones and Android-based cameras, as well as printing from Windows or Mac computers." Tablets are also supported.

A free companion Mobile Status App for both iOS and Android provides basic control of the server to monitor the job queue and receive low-paper and thermal warnings on a mobile device.

The company has not yet released information on price or availability. For more details see the news release below.

DNP Introduces Wireless Print Server and Status App

Increasing Mobile Device Support for Their Leading Line of Dye-sublimation Photo Printers

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- DNP Imagingcomm America Corp. has introduced its new Wireless Print Server mobile photography solution. Developed to support professional photographers whose workflows often include mobile wireless devices, the DNP Wireless Print Server is an Android set-top box running custom DNP software that replaces a typical PC and network router. Designed exclusively for DNP's award-winning DS40, DS80, RX1 and DS620A dye-sublimation printers, the Wireless Print Server gives photographers the ability to print directly from many WiFi enabled devices.

Using its built-in 802.11 b/g/n dual-band WiFi access point, the Wireless Print Server allows users to print directly from certain WiFi enabled dSLR cameras, iOS phones, Android phones and Android-based cameras, as well as printing from Windows or Mac computers. It also allows users to select and print groups of photos using tablets running iOS, Android or Windows. The WPS supports up to five wireless device connections simultaneously.

A single WPS can connect to two identical DNP photo printer models for speed/redundancy or connect to two different models for an increased range of print size options. The device allows for multiple print sizes including 4x6 5x7 6x8 and 8x10, depending on the combination of printers and media. It also supports printing with glossy and matte finishes and allows images to be combined with custom borders.

DNP's new Mobile Status App provides simple control of the WPS and is designed to provide a convenient printer and server control interface that allows operators to see near-real-time feedback on printer status, configuration control and job process status. Low-paper and thermal warnings can also be seen on mobile devices via the app. The Mobile Status App will be available as a free download for iOS and Android devices from their respective marketplaces.

"Mobile, wireless tools are an increasingly important part of the modern workflows of our customers," said Katsuyuki Oshima, President of DNP Imagingcomm America Corp. "The Wireless Print Server and companion Mobile Status App support this trend and will expand the functionality of our printers for a variety of applications, providing new opportunities for our customers to upgrade their services."

The WPS is ideal for event photographers who need professional on-demand printing or a guest self-serving printing solution. It can also be integrated into lightweight kiosks and small retail photo printing solutions. The DNP Wireless Print Server will be available in May.
