In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at image scaling using deep convolutional neural networks, some ethereal images, new Flickr features and Chuck Close.
- Ah, enlarging digital images. Bicubic, bilinear, and nearest-neighbor interpolation, sure. But Norman Tasfi, who interned at Flipboard last summer, explores Image Scaling using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks. Pretty sharp.
- Darlene Hildebrandt's Ethereal Images of Places of Worship will get you in the mood for our Friday slide show later today.
- Thomas Hawk reviews the New Version of Flickr, happy that "Flickr is introducing the ability for you to bulk download your photos from their site." He likes the new search experience, too.
- A 15-image slide show highlights the collaborative photo compositions of Chuck Close, featured in an exhibit at the Parrish Art Museum opening May 10.
