In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at printer-managed color on Mac OS, a seminar for professional photographers on the dangers of railroad track photography, Janet Jackson in New Orleans and concert photography tips.
- In Photoshop vs. Printer-Managed Color Printing, master printer Ctein elaborates on his move to printer-managed color on Mac OS. "Understand that for me this is not some theoretical discussion," he writes. "I am so convinced of these results that my future work will be printed with printer-managed color."
- In Taking photos on train tracks: 'A mistake you can't undo.', Dan Morse reports that this month Operation Lifesaver will host a Web-based seminar with the Professional Photographers of America "to discuss the dangers of track photography and explore safer alternatives."
- The Times-Picayune, which has survived worse, explains Why no pictures of Janet Jackson's concert in New Orleans?. "Some image-conscious performers (such as Prince) do not allow photographers access to their live performances at all. But Jackson's release, allowing less than one minute of access and granting the performer control of the images we shoot, is among the most restrictive we have ever seen." They didn't sign it.
- And in From The Nose Bleeds To The Ear Bleeds: Concert Photography Concepts For Everyone, Sean Molin list 10 tips for capturing those dramatic venues (you know, when performer appreciates the publicity). We particularly like the last one (wear earplugs).
