Peachpit has announced it will publish Eric Cheng's Aerial Photography and Videography Using Drones later this month.

Cheng spent nearly two years as Director of Aerial Imaging at DJI, creators of the Phantom quadcopter. In January, Cheng flew a camera drone above the Holuhraun volcano eruption in Iceland, broadcasting live to over six million people on ABC's Good Morning America.

"I am asked many times every day what drone to buy and how to get started in aerial imagery. There's a lot of confusion out there." Cheng said. "I wrote this book to address that confusion. The content took me many years in the field to learn -- it's full of useful and pragmatic advice about storytelling using drones in the air."

DJI Phantom 3 quadcopters are used as the typical example, as well as drones that can host GoPro HERO cameras.

Aerial Photography and Videography Using Drones will be release for $26.52 on Oct. 29. For more information see the news release below.

New Aerial Drone Photography Book Teaches New And Beginner Consumer Drone Owners About How To Be Successful In Aerial Imaging

Aerial Photography and Videography Using Drones, written by drone industry expert Eric Cheng, is a much-needed field guide that includes everything a new pilot needs to know to safely and proficiently capture still images and video from the air, including equipment advice, pilot training, tips about flying and shooting, sample aerial images and the stories behind them and navigating complex regulatory environment in the U.S.

SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Eric Cheng, an award-winning photographer, technologist and drone expert, will debut his first book on Oct. 29, as part of Peachpit's line of field guides and tutorial books. Drones have exploded in popularity worldwide because of the unprecedented ease of using them to get cameras in the air. Cheng's book, Aerial Photography and Videography Using Drones, is a timely educational resource, written to help beginner-and-intermediate drone pilots learn how to capture pictures and videos from the air safely and proficiently.

Aerial Photography and Videography Using Drones focuses on mainstream manufactured products from established companies but teaches generic principles that can be applied to all drones; most discussions use DJI Phantom 3 quadcopters as the example, as well as drones that carry GoPro HERO series action cameras.

Cheng is known for his thought leadership in the drone industry and spent nearly two years as Director of Aerial Imaging at DJI, the world's largest drone manufacturer and creators of the Phantom quadcopter, which nearly single-handedly gave birth to consumer aerial imaging.

"Eric is perhaps the most dedicated envelope-pusher I've ever met when it comes to equipment and technology," said Adam Savage, lifelong maker and co-host of the hit show, Mythbusters, on Discovery Channel. "You couldn't ask for a better field guide to this new frontier."

Cheng's book is "the ultimate guide for aerial imaging," said Gregory McNeal, co-founder of AirMap, Professor of Law and Public Policy at Pepperdine University and contributor to Forbes.com. "From techniques, to demystifying gear, to understanding the regulatory environment, [the book] is essential reading for new and experienced operators alike."
