In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at 20 award-winning images, sensors clipping violet light, Thein's take-down problem and a BorrowLenses discount.
- In Running a Business Without a Bank, Emily Anne Epstein displays 20 images from the competition run by Consultative Group to Assist the Poor, a World Bank initiative. And they are stunning.
- In Spectral Transmission of Digital Sensors, Lloyd Chambers reports "the Sony A7R II has a 420nm bandpass filter coating on the sensor cover glass, which cuts off a lot of violet light." And Sony isn't unusual in that regard. Which may explain why red flowers tend to look so flat. The purple shadows are missing.
- Ming Thein has resolved his take-down problem with Yahoo. You'll never guess.
- BorrowLenses is offering a 15 percent discount through Nov. 2 when you use the code BORROWEEN. Rentals must start by Nov. 11. No trick.
