In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at a dual lens iPhone 7 Plus, Scott Schumann after Vivian Maier, Blair Bunting's SR-71 Blackbird photos and AA rechargeables.

  • Joe Rossignol reports KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the iPhone 7 Plus "will likely have a dual-lens camera system based on technology Apple acquired from LinX Imaging." Which means it will "be able to take SLR-quality photos -- think Canon or Nikon." One little problem: the image quality samples don't actually demonstrate that. But let the hype begin.
  • Scott Schumann visited the Vivian Maier exhibit in Milan and was smitten enough to capture "a 'mid-century' kind of moment" he saw on Via Dante, Milan. Last century, that is.
  • Blair Bunting shows off a few of his SR-71 Blackbird photos, "an aircraft that screamed as quietly as the night, flying for almost ten years before it was even known to exist."
  • In The Best Rechargeable AA Batteries, Mark Smirniotis "found that the Energizer Recharge Power Plus are the best rechargeable AAs for most people most of the time. But we also found that almost all the brands we tested are good enough for most uses if you can find them at a discount." The Energizers offer 16 percent more capacity and 7 percent longer flashlight burn time than the popular Eneloops.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
