24 March 2016

Leica has announced the addition of a 90-280mm zoom lens to its SL system. The Leica APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm f2.8-4 complements the Leica Vario-Elmarit-SL 24-90mm f2.8-4 ASPH to cover focal lengths from 24 to 280mm.

HIGHLIGHTS

The optical design is comprised of 23 elements in seven moving groups, seven of which are made from glass with "unique partial dispersion to minimize chromatic aberrations," the company said. Apertures range from f2.8 to f22.

The movement of the two focusing elements features a newly-developed drive concept with linear positioning of the lenses by stepping motors. As a result, the overall length of the lens does not change when focusing or zooming. Additionally, the included lens suppresses reflections, stray light and prevents flare, Leica said. The outer elements feature Leica's AquaDura coating.
