In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Carrie Boretz, three post processing apps, food photography tips and 4K/5K displays.

  • In Real Life on New York's Streets, David Gonzales talks to photojournalist Carrie Boretz about her Kickstarter project to publish STREET, a book of her street shots from 1975 through 1998. "I had a real reverence for the people I shot," she remembers. It shows.
  • Harold Davis took an iPhone photo of a scale model of a stage set at the Opera Garnier in Paris. Then he ran it through Plastic Bullet, Mexture and Lo-Mob to get Stage Set. Who said post processing isn't fun?
  • Rocky Nook is offering a free download of Food Photography Tips for Instagrammers. We read it and it isn't just for Instagrammers. It's a far ranging discussion of the topic taken from Corinna Gissemann's Food Photography: A Beginner's Guide to Appetizing Images.
  • Jeff Benjamin offers his Opinion: MacBook Pro owners, it's time to consider a 4K display but the discussion is relevant to anyone considering a new monitor. Benjamin lists the computers that support a 4K display, specs for a 4K monitor in general, current hot deals on monitors that meet those specs, why you might want 5K and how a refurbished 5K iMac might just be the hot ticket right now.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
