Photography Competing to Raise Support is now accepting entries for its charity-focused photo contest. Submissions due July 15 should illustrate this year's contest theme, the poem To Change the World Enough by Alice Walker. Proceeds from this year’s fundraising efforts will go to Black Women Organized for Political Action.

"We are excited to continue showcasing the great work of aspiring photographers looking to gain new followers of their work and who are also interested in creating meaningful change," said PCTRS co-founder Anna Nti-Asare, an educator with Aspire Public Schools. "We hope that in the next few weeks, photographers all over the country will submit work that embodies their views on how to change the world."

Judges include:

  • Cheo Hodari Coker, a producer and writer best known for "NCIS: Los Angeles," "Notorious," and "Southland." He is currently the executive producer and showrunner of the Netflix show "Marvel's Luke Cage."
  • Aja Brown is the Mayor of Compton, the city's youngest, elected at age 31. Mayor Brown's "New Vision for Compton," focused on 12 key principles to help revitalize the city, has helped reduce crime and increase development in Compton.
  • Aeriél Miranda is an American actress best known for her recurring role as Shana Fring on the ABC Family series 'Pretty Little Liars.' She was also recently in the movie 'Straight Outta Compton.'

PCTRS co-founder Farris Blount said, "We will be sharing some of the top entries with our judges who will share them with their networks and followers and also through a final publicity push in the coming weeks."

Deadline Announced for PCTRS, Charity-Focused Photo Contest

Photographers Invited to Submit Photos Illustrating Alice Walker Poem

LOS ANGELES -- Photographers looking to gain exposure while making a difference have until July 15 to submit their photos in this year's PCTRS contest. Contest winners will win tickets to a Los Angeles Sparks game of their choice, dinner with one of the judges -- television producer and writer Cheo Hodari Coker -- as well as a feature with an online publication. Photo submissions will be due July 15 and should illustrate this year's contest theme, the poem "To Change the World Enough" by Alice Walker (photographers are encouraged to submit a photo they already have and explain how it relates to the poem). Proceeds from this year's fundraising efforts will go to Black Women Organized for Political Action.

The PCTRS contest encourages the creation of photography and art that promotes social awareness. Photographers interested in illustrating Alice Walker's poem will submit their photos online and encourage their friends to support their submission by donating to BWOPA through the contest site (instead of voting, supporters donate money toward their favorite picture). Every week the photos with the least amount of money fundraised are eliminated from the competition. When the 5 top photos have been determined, they will be reviewed by the judges, who choose the grand prize winner. PCTRS was launched in 2012 to support organizations serving women of color and to showcase the creativity of photographers -- at beginner and expert levels. The contest was founded by Anna Nti-Asare and Farris Blount, Stanford University class of 2014 graduates now working to inspire and improve their communities.

"We are excited to continue showcasing the great work of aspiring photographers looking to gain new followers of their work and who are also interested in creating meaningful change," said PCTRS co-founder Anna Nti-Asare, an educator with Aspire Public Schools who recently completed her master's degree in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from The University of Cambridge. "We hope that in the next few weeks, photographers all over the country will submit work that embodies their views on how to change the world."

"Photographers who are looking to get national exposure through our social media channels and networks have only a few short days to submit images," said PCTRS co-founder Farris Blount, a youth mentor and student at Harvard University's Divinity School. "We will be sharing some of the top entries with our judges who will share them with their networks and followers and also through a final publicity push in the coming weeks."
