We're taking the drone approach to covering Photokina 2014. No boots on the ground but aerial surveillance of the more important targets. We'll provide a brief description with links to official press releases and sponsored links for pre-ordering. This entry covers Pocket Wizard's FlexTT5 for Panasonic; the SinarS 30|45 back; the Metz M400; the Multiblitz V6-D and a Rocky Nook discount.

POCKET WIZARD

LPA Design has announced the FlexTT5 TTL Radio System, the first TTL wireless trigger system for Panasonic mirrorless cameras. The company also announced it is developing a remote camera cable to allow Panasonic photographers to trigger a remote camera with their FlexTT5 or any other PocketWizard radio. HSS with Panasonic DMW-FL360L and DMW-FL580L speedlights will allow for a full range of sync speeds up to 1/8000, often overpowering bright sunlight in outdoor settings. Studio flash is easily incorporated into a lighting set up with PocketWizard's HyperSync technology, which allows photographers to shoot at higher sync speeds, stop action and control both ambient light and flash at the same time.

At release, the PocketWizard FlexTT5 for Panasonic is currently TTL compatible with the Lumix GH4 camera and DMW-FL360L and DMW-FL580L flashes. Compatibility with other Panasonic camera and flash models will be offered through firmware updates. The FlexTT5 for Panasonic is compatible with existing PocketWizard transceivers including the Plus IV and Plus III in manual trigger mode. It also communicates with all PocketWizard-enabled photo gear including select Profoto, Dynalite, Norman and Photogenic flash systems and Sekonic light meters in manual mode.

The FlexTT5 Transceiver for Panasonic will be available at the end of October with the option of purchasing a single $186 radio or a set of two with a PocketWizard G-Wiz Trunk bag for $299.

SINAR

The new Sinarback S 30|45 was designed for mobile use and is uniquely versatile for shooting photos and film. The high-resolution 3.0-inch display produces a live image while a WLAN offers the option of comfortable operation with an iPad. CF and SD memory card slots and tethered shooting via the USB 3.0 connection provide options to the Sinar CaptureFlow software. The Sinarback S 30|45 also features ISO sensitivity to 12,500.

This digital back can do more than just take pictures. A Leica CMOS sensor with micro lenses (37.5 megapixels) and a Leica Maestro II image processor can capture video in Full HD up to 4K.

In addition to the familiar Sinaron digital lenses, you now also have the option of using Leica S-Lenses with the new Sinar S-CS adapter.

METZ

The Mecablitz M400 represents a new generation of CompactFlash systems. It is especially suited to mirrorless system cameras and is ideal for any photographers or film-makers looking for a convenient flash unit. The mecablitz M400 is also highly equipped and leaves nothing to be desired. The maximum guide number of 40 for ISO 100 is capable of handling almost all shooting situations. Versatile lighting options are provided by the motor zoom function (24-105mm), the fully pivotable reflector with removable reflector card and the integrated wide-angle diffuser (12mm). The M400 is also ideal for wireless operation, be it TTL or servo. As for usability, the M400 also sets new standards with its innovative OLED display and its impressively tidy, simplified user interface.

The Auto TTL operating mode enables the camera to fully automatically control the flash unit (turning on and flashing) and ensures the subject of your picture is put in the best light possible -- perfect to those new to flash. The mecablitz can be synchronised with the first or second shutter curtain (irrespective of camera model) and it supports high-speed sync (HSS or FP). The new design of the mecablitz M400 not only looks timeless -- the flash unit is always kept up-to-date via a USB interface for receiving firmware updates.

Multiblitz has introduced its €706.98 V6-D LED-Light featuring 5000K daylight color temperature and a luminous flux of 6000 lumens, equivalent 650 W halogen light. With a lifetime of over 50,000 hours, the low power consumption makes the V6-D a highly economical lighting source The V6-D is compatible with all Multiblitz P-type light modifiers, offering limitless light shaping possibilities.

The new V-PAC high-performance Lithium-Ion battery provides the V6 system with up to 100 min of full power operation when used network-independent.
