SilverFast Releases SRDx Defect Removal Plug-In Share This on LinkedIn   Share This on Google   Tweet This   Forward This

3 December 2016

In an email to SilverFast customers, LaserSoft Imaging announced a plug-in version of its SRDx dust and scratch removal compatible with Photoshop CC on Mac OS X 10.10 or later. There is no Windows version.

Decoupling LaserSoft Imaging's SRDx defect removal technology from the scanning process itself is a significant productivity improvement. Employing it during scanning slows down the image acquisition process so much that we've recommended skipping it entirely and manually touching up important images.

But because it works without blurring the image or using an infrared scan of the film, it's a valuable tool. And having it available as a Photoshop plug-in makes it possible to skip the tedium of manually touching up those important images.

And it isn't just useful for scans, we suspect. It should be able to handle sensor dust, too. That's something we'll be anxious to test.

The new plug-in is available now for $69 as a download. A 30-day demo of the plug-in is also available for download.

For more information see the text of the email below.

SRDx dust and scratch removal -- now available as plug-in to your Photoshop workflow

Dear SilverFast Customer,

When digitizing images with a scanner it is possible that dust and scratches from the analog original appear in the digital image. Such defects are usually quite difficult to remove.

The SRDx -- Smart Removal of Defects plug-in thus is the ideal expansion for users who process their images in Photoshop. From now on, you can profit from the fantastic dust and scratch removal function SRDx that you know already from within your SilverFast software, in form of a Photoshop plug-in. It's available in Photoshop in the professional version with defect marker.

SRDx is seamlessly integrated with your accustomed workflow while complementing Photoshop[!]s already existing correction stamp tool by a function that uses a highly adjustable detection to remove defects efficiently and without blur effects. All about our SRDx Plug-in.

The SRDx Plug-in is available for Mac OS X and Adobe Photoshop CC.

Has LaserSoft mentioned if there will be a Windows version? -- Steve

There hasn't been a decision yet. The company is evaluating the success of this release before deciding. But they do plan to release a "whole line of plug-ins for the next year" so the odds would seem to be pretty good. -- Mike
