Cruick, a British firm founded by photographer Grant Cruick, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new line of leather camera straps "designed with longevity and quality in mind," according to the company.
The straps are veg-tan leather from the Belgian tannery Masure before being finished in a wide range of colors with American and British origin dyes, waxes and oils. The "no compromises hardware" is made from solid 304 grade steel and brass for strength and reliability.
"Photographers invest a lot in their gear but often the straps that come with the camera are lacking in quality and individual style," Cruick said. "Almost all manufacturers of camera straps will cut corners somewhere in the name of economy, whether it's the leather or the hardware. The result is a strap that performs well for a certain amount of time but will need replacing.
"Cruick was built on a different ethos. We use only the absolute best materials we can source with the aim of delivering a uniquely stylish strap that will last a lifetime and take both form and function to the highest level possible."
While the straps are certainly handsome, we're concerned about the Chicago screws used to rivet the various leather pieces together and attach the strap to the camera. The camera attachment seems safely snug but the rivets on the wider shoulder strap may be a concern when packing your camera into a bag where they could scratch your LCD monitor. We note the cameras depicted on the Kickstarter page are all film models that don't have that vulnerability.
Backers will receive the first shipments and also be given the option to create a truly exclusive strap, choosing length, colorway selection, design, hardware material, branding preference and even the color of the packaging.
The Kickstarter campaign runs until March 9. For more information see the news release below.
Cruick Launches Crowdfunding Campaign to Fuse Bespoke British Design with Premium Leather Straps for Photographers
A high-end manufacturer of leather camera straps is giving professional and budding photographers alike a chance to receive a bespoke, superior finished camera strap through its crowdfunding campaign championing British creativity. Cruick's British built camera leather fuses an eye for design with attention to detail, wrapped up in heritage leather and premium hardware.
The British firm takes full control of its product design and manufacturing processes, keeping the methods in-country, rather than outsourcing to cut costs. The result is an ultra-premium range of camera straps that is designed with longevity and quality in mind. Cruick's products are made from veg-tan leather sourced from Belgian tannery, Masure, an institution that has set the global benchmark since 1873 in terms of quality, before being finished in a wide range of colors with the finest American and British origin dyes, waxes and oils. The pursuit of delivering the best leather camera strap on the market doesn't stop there, with the no compromises hardware made from solid 304 grade steel and brass for strength and reliability.
Grant Cruick, a former professional photographer turned leather artisan and founder of Cruick, said, "Photographers invest a lot in their gear but often the straps that come with the camera are lacking in quality and individual style. Almost all manufacturers of camera straps will cut corners somewhere in the name of economy, whether it's the leather or the hardware. The result is a strap that performs well for a certain amount of time but will need replacing. Cruick was built on a different ethos. We use only the absolute best materials we can source with the aim of delivering a uniquely stylish strap that will last a lifetime and take both form and function to the highest level possible."
Photographers that back the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign are being offered a unique opportunity. Not only will they receive the first products to come from the dedicated Cruick workshop, they'll also be given the option to create a truly exclusive strap, with the ability to choose length, colorway selection, design, hardware material, branding preference and even the color of the packaging. The Kickstarter only bespoke option is perfect for matching your camera strap to your own individual flair and style.
The Kickstarter campaign is running now until 9 of March giving professional photographers and enthusiasts an opportunity to get their hands on a bespoke Cruick Luxus Pro strap, Cruick Shackle strap or limited edition colorway Key Fob below the usual retail prices. Cruick already has ambitious and exciting plans in the pipeline as it continues to develop its range, with additional designs, color combinations and historical salvaged materials outlined for forthcoming straps.
