Meyer-Optik-Goerlitz has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a 35mm f2.8 lens to bring the Trioplan soap bubble bokeh to a wide-angle lens for the first time.

Dubbed the Trioplan 35+, the new lens will join the Trioplan 100mm f2.8 and 50mm f2.9 in Meyer-Optik's lineup of high-quality, hand-crafted, manual focus art lenses.

"Kickstarter backers have been absolutely essential in helping finance research and development and improvements at our production facilities," said Dr. Stefan Immes, Meyer-Optik CEO.

To achieve its bokeh, Meyer-Optik engineers designed the new lens according to the historic Cook Triplet design but added two elements to boost the lens. The extra two lens elements is why Meyer-Optik decided to add the "+" to the name of the lens.

Meyer-Optik Announces Kickstarter to Add Final Piece to Its Trioplan Trilogy

Trioplan's Signature 'Soap Bubble Bokeh' Coming to a 35mm f2.8 Storyteller Lens

Meyer-Optik-Goerlitz launched a Kickstarter campaign today to create the third and final lens of the Trioplan trilogy -- a 35mm f2.8 lens that brings the famous "soap bubble" bokeh to a wide-angle lens for the first time.

Dubbed the Trioplan 35+, the new lens is perfect for street and documentary photographers to help tell their stories. It will join the very successful Trioplan 100mm f2.8 and 50mm f2.9 in Meyer-Optik's lineup of high-quality, hand-crafted, manual focus art lenses.

And like its big brothers, the Trioplan 35+ is making its debut on Kickstarter, the crowd-funding site that helped Meyer-Optik raise more than $1.8 million to bring the other two Trioplans, along with the Primoplan 58mm, onto the market.

"Kickstarter backers have been absolutely essential in helping finance research and development and improvements at our production facilities," said Dr. Stefan Immes, CEO of Meyer-Optik.

The Trioplan 35+ is a groundbreaking lens. Previously, it was thought too difficult to achieve the soap bubble effect in a wide-angle lens. But Meyer-Optik engineers designed the new lens according to the historic Cook Triplet design but added two elements to boost the lens. The extra two lens elements is why Meyer-Optik decided to add the "+" to the name of the lens.

"The Trioplan 35+ will be unrivaled in its ability to capture the spirit and emotion of the moment," Dr. Immes said. "Photography is not just about squeezing the most pixels into a square inch -- it's about creating art."

Through the Kickstarter project, Meyer-Optik offers backers the chance to be first in line to receive the new Trioplan 35+, which is expected to go into serial production in October of this year.
