At its annual conference Saturday, the Professional Aerial Photographers Association has announced that Curtis Waltz has won the association's HP Aerial Photographer of the Year award.
Waltz was cited for his recent aerial photography and aerial video work on the 2015 Netflix Documentary, Making a Murderer. He shoots with a Nikon D810 and a variety of lenses suited to daytime aerials, night imagery and architectural work.
A commercial pilot, Waltz soloed an airplane before earning his driver's license and has experimented with photography longer than that. He founded Aerialscapes Inc. in 2002 and provides commercial aerial photography services to clients throughout the Chicago and Milwaukee region as well as nationally.
During the conference PAPA sponsored a charity auction of 70 aerial photographs, all of which were printed by HP on its DesignJet Z6800. The more than $8,000 in proceeds from the online auction will be donated to the Noreen Macbean Children's Center in Honduras.
