In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Blaustein's presentation of work from Aaron Hardin, Evgheny Maloletka and Emelienne Malfatto; Dorothea Lange; filters in Photoshop; 12-row bands in the Sony a9; a copyright story; Fiona Tan and a petition for B&H warehouse workers.
- Jonathan Blaustein's The Best Work I Saw at the NYT Portfolio Review, Part 2 begins with Aaron Hardin's book The 13th Spring before presenting new work from Evgheny Maloletka and Emelienne Malfatto, who "emailed me after getting back to internet service in the danger zones in which they were shooting."
- The East Bay's Dorothea Lange is a 37-minute audio documentary on photographer Dorothea Lange by East Bay Yesterday.
- Julieanne Kost continues her Photoshop shortcut and tips series with 10 Tips for Working With Filters in Photoshop CC. It includes the PDF Filters Examples PDF from her Lynda.com course.
- Jim Kasson uses an analog oscilloscope to chase down the Sony a9 Electronic Shutter Details. The images show the shutter reading the image in bands of 12 rows.
- Greenberg and Reznicki tell A Tale of Factoid and Consequences in which failure to register copyright in the U.S. for $35 cost a U.K. photographer an estimated $125,000.
- In Artist-in-Residence Fiona Tan Uses Getty Collections to Develop Her Next Portrait Project, James Fishburne profiles the artist's recent videos and current project on a series of portraits by Thèodore Gèricault from the 1820s who painted 10 people suffering from different mental illnesses.
- At #BHEXPOSED: An Open Letter to B&H Photo Video you can join supporters of "the over 200 B&H Photo Video warehouse workers who are seeking to form a union and secure a contract to protect themselves against the dangerous work conditions and discrimination they are currently facing."
