Citizen Photo Launches CY-02 Dye Sub Photo Printer

Citizen Photo has announced its CY-02 dye sublimation photo printer, which improves on the output speed of its CY printer from two 6x8-inch prints per minute to three.

The CY-02 produces 700 4x6-inch or 350 6x8-inch prints per roll, a feature particularly attractive to retail outlets, event photographers, photobooth operators and amusement park operators.

In All Printers Are Not Equal, the company published the results of tests of its OP900II photo printer conducted by Chris Osbourne from Crossbow Colour Consultants.

Density and tone neutrality, two perennial problems for dye sub printers, were the focus of his study. Osbourne concluded:
What I found, was that the maximum visual density, consistently exceeded the needs of a high-quality premium photo printer, with the high density increasing the dynamic range/contrast of prints. The OP900II also had 'extremely good' neutrality of RGB Black, in fact, of the range of branded photo printers tested, the Citizen printer had the best neutrality throughout the tonal range overall. Something that's of optimum importance for photographers and photofinishers in general.
Citizen, whose watch division has nearly 100 years of precision engineering experience, produces nearly 40,000 printers a year.
PRICE, AVAILABILITY
Citizen said the $710 CY-2 is now available in Europe for £660 or €799 with a free €100 carry bag while supplies last. Media packs consisting of paper and a dye ribbon are $117 or £108.90/€137.45.
