In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Italian marble, more from the LACP Portfolio Review, another Lighting 103 installment, The Curator and Phase One's 100-Mp achromatic digital back.
- In The Marble of Michelangelo's Dreams, Alan Taylor presents 18 photos of the quarries operating toady on Monte Altissimo. Quarries, that is, which Michelangelo could only dream about.
- In the second part of Jonathan Blaustein's The Best Work I Saw at the LACP Portfolio Review, he shows selected works by Lisa McCord, Dawn Watson, Douglas Stockdale, Elonora Ronconi, J. Matt, Linda Alterwitz and Mark Zaslove.
- In the latest installment of his Lighting 103 series, David Hobby proposes Learning From Your Couch, where you can easily see your TV. He considers what you can learn by watching the BBC's Dr. Who, for example. "Light and color are an integral part of Dr. Who's physical setting," he writes.
- Photo District News presents the winners of the 2017 edition of The Curator, showcasing photographers in six fine-art photography categories. All winning prints will be displayed on ChromaLuxe dye-sublimation metal prints by New York-based fine art print lab Griffin Editions. Grand Prize winner Bill Durgin will also receive a $3,500 award for his outstanding series.
- Phase One has announced its new 100-Mp achromatic digital back is now shipping, as promised in May.
