In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Kevin Sturman in Morocco, shooting a 1:1 aspect ratio, Capture One import options, QAD card practices and multi-photo layouts in Lightroom.

  • In Beneath the Sheltering Sky, Kevin Sturman presents his images of Morocco and discusses the influence of Helmut Newton on his work. He appreciated the light there after living in the Arizona desert but "in Marrakech you see the craziest things."
  • Kirk Tuck discusses the attractions of a 1:1 Aspect Ratio, particularly when it's displayed in the viewfinder.
  • In Capture One: Applying Corrections and Data on Import, Derrick Story shares a video of the adjustments Capture One can apply to your images before you get your hands on them. That includes metadata like copyright, too.
  • Thom Hogan goes through his recommended QAD Card Practices, which apply to memory cards in general. Short but sweet.
  • Scott Kelby shows you How to Make Multi-Photo Layouts for Social Media in Lightroom in six steps. It includes the page dimensions for Facebook and Instagram so you can create a layout to use on any collection of images.

More to come! The fog is protecting our eyes from the eclipse this morning so we'll just work through the darkness. Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
