In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at a friendship forged in combat, the importance of clothes that fit, a Lightroom trick, a used gear sale and gear rental discounts. We are, however, sparing you any eclipse photos.
- After Combat, a Photographer and a Marine Find Common Ground is the seven-year story of Marine Sgt. Thomas James Brennan and Reuters photojournalist Finbarr O'Reilly. It's the short version of the 350-page Shooting Ghosts. "One key to dealing with trauma, we discovered, is friendship," O'Reilly writes.
- In Wardrobe, Kirk Tuck observes he "spent half an hour this morning doing some retouching that was required because we're losing some aspects/guidelines of public personal presentation." If you're going in front of the cameras, be ready for your close-up.
- In Quick Dragging Photos in Grid View, Benjamin Warde reveals the quick way to pair distant images in Lightroom:
- B&H is having a sale on its used photo equipment.
- BorrowLenses' Back to School discount will take 10 percent off rentals up to $200, 15 percent off rentals to $400, 25 percent off rentals to $1,000 and $250 off rentals over $1,000 when you use the code GEARUP25 at checkout.
