In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Tina Modotti, Aperture on High Sierra, David Hobby's lighting kit update, the Hasselblad X1D electronic shutter firmware update and an unforgettable dinner.
- In Tina Modotti, Behind the Camera and Out of Weston's Shadow, Rene Silverman presents 12 images by the Italian photographer on the occasion of the republication of her biography, Tina Modotti: Photographer & Revolutionary by Margaret Hooks.
- Derrick Story asks, Will Aperture Run on macOS High Sierra?. "The answer appears to be yes," he writes. As of beta version 6 anyway.
- Strobist David Hobby offers his Major Updates to Strobist Lighting Kits, "the modern day version of the basic speedlight-based setup I carried on my daily newspaper assignments for the better part of 20 years." Not just good ideas and reliable product recommendations but some nice deals, too.
- Ming Thein reveals the technological issues behind the E-Shutter Firmware for the Hasselblad X1D, which is available now on the Hasselblad site. The 300ms sensor readout is the limiting factor.
- Jeffrey Friedl took his Nikon D4 with him for An Unforgettable Dinner at AIC Akitsushima Kyoto. As a bonus, you can run each of the entrancing images through his Image Metadata Viewer (based on Phil Harvey's ExifTool) for all the specs.
