In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at trees, Scotland, two Batis lenses, filters, Photo Walk Week, the 2017 Canon EOS M6, the new Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices and two images by Harold Davis.
- In Telling the Tales of Trees Around the World, Rena Silverman interviews Diane Cook and Len Jenshel about their new book Wise Trees. With 12 images of some very unusual specimens.
- Carnets De Traverse features color images of Scottish Highlands taken by the French travel photographer duo of Julie Sarperi and Renaud Bonnet. "These photographs invite the viewer to travel with us, to follow us in these large and wild spaces," they (well, one of them) say. "We try to break the distance by playing with a small depth of field and a camera height that remains constant."
- In The Extreme Batis: MTF Tests of the Zeiss Batis 18mm and 135mm f2.8 Lenses, Roger Cicala combines his tests of both extreme focal length Zeiss lenses in a single post.
- Jim Kasson explores the effect of Flare and Finger Filters with a series of tests illustrating the difference between using and not using a protective filter.
- Just a reminder from Scott Kelby that It's Worldwide Photo Walk Week! Saturday is the actual day, so there's still time to join a walk.
- Robin Wong reviews The 2017 Canon EOS M6. He was impressed "with the speedy AF performance, pleasing Canon colors and overall shooting experience. The kit lens however, needs vast improvement, and if you are using the Canon EOS-M5 or M6, please look for alternatives."
- Carolyn Wright reports the U.S. Copyright Office Releases Updated Version of the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices, Third Edition. The Compendium, effective Sept. 29, is the governing administrative manual for registrations and recordations. This version has been reformatted for easier reading online or off.
- Harold Davis provides two gorgeous shots of the San Francisco Sunset From Port Oakland. The top one combines three long exposures, the bottom one was a 1/8000 second capture.
More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
