In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Motorclassica, 40 years ago (twice), the history of fashion photography, a custom white balance factor, a SRDx Photoshop plug-in deal, William Eggleston as you've never heard him before, Astro HQ's camera button and Connor Nickerson.
- In Motorclassica celebrates the Australian Automobile Industry one last time, Mike Hanlon presents 94 images of some rare but beautiful beasts on display last weekend in Melbourne.
- Alan Taylor present 40 images in 40 Years Ago: A Look Back at 1977. You know, Star Wars, Jimmy Carter, the TRS-80, Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Grace Jones. Or you could wallow in Four Decades of Springsteen in Pictures by Steven Dougherty for a while.
- In The History of Fashion Photography Revisited, Gisely Ruiz interviews associate curator Paul Martineau about the upcoming exhibition Icons of Style: A Century of Fashion Photography 1911-2011, which will be shown at the Gerry from June 26 to Oct. 21 next year.
- Kirk Tuck makes an interesting observation in Kirk's Photography Tip of the Day. CWB.. It isn't just about the color of the light. Your lens has a color bias, too. So when you change lenses, recalibrate your custom white balance.
- LaserSoft Imaging has discounted its SRDx Photoshop plug-in from $99 to $29. The plug-in, which removes dust and scratches (see our review), is now available for both macOS and Windows (your GPU must support OpenCL).
- This is funny. Photographer William Eggleston plays the piano. "People know my photographs because they're published in books and shown in galleries and museums and so forth and yet I don't perform music in public, ever -- only in front of good friends who really want to hear it and who really listen," he said. Just listen to him playing Untitled Improvisation FD 1.10:
- This is even funnier. Savannah Reising explains how Astro HQ found a way to add a button on the button-free iPad: treat the camera lens like one.
- Then there's this: Connor Nickerson photoshopping himself into some childhood photos. Probably not as charming to photoshop your childhood self into recent selfies.
We're running the public service notice below to remind Americans they can sign up for the American Health Care from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15 to be insured in 2018.
