In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Northern California fire scar, Aperture at 65, panos with the Spark and the Olympus 45mm f1.2 Pro.
- The original image shown on Impact of Northern California Fires Seen in New NASA Satellite Image depicts vegetation in red, which is confusing when talking about fires. So we did a quick hue change to green. That isn't accurate either but it helps you see how much of the area has been blackened by fire.
- In Aperture at 65: Changing the 'Cult' of Photography, James Estrin interviews Chris Boot, the executive director of the nonprofit Aperture Foundation. "We're interested in how photography is shaping who we become," Boot says. A scary thought.
- Derrick Story is shooting Elevated Panoramas With the DJI Spark. But he prefers making the panoramas in Lightroom.
- Robin Wong reviews The 2017 Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 45mm f1.2 Pro. "While I was happy with the fast performance of the lens and the excellent image quality," he writes, "the one thing that made me fall in love with the lens, is how the rendering characteristics of the images by this 45mm Pro lens look."
We're running the public service notice below to remind Americans they can sign up for the American Health Care from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15 to be insured in 2018.
