Friday Slide Show: A Vespa Fantasy Share This on LinkedIn   Share This on Google   Tweet This   Forward This

24 November 2017

Since it's Black Friday we seriously thought of leaving you to your shopping and family and leftovers for the day. But we enjoy putting together these little slide shows every week. So why deny ourselves the pleasure?

We have a house full of guests, though, and sneaking off for an hour or so might be considered "extravagant." Fortunately we need a lot less sleep than our guests. So we found some time.

We did not find time for shopping though. So we've had to fantasize.

And what better shopping fantasy to indulge than imagining a brand new Vespa, complete with Piaggio helmet to spirit us out of here?

None.

We can't say we subsequently took these studio shots of this metallic green beauty. And we can't say we'd forgotten them either. We had fun taking them.

But we can say we didn't remember a thing about the gear we used.

It was a studio lighting setup in Dogpatch with Pocket Wizard remote triggers and we were in some illustrious company, a guest of Nikon. Rob Galbraith was there (and stuck around to help pack up the equipment) and Lloyd Chambers, too. Tony Corbell from San Diego. Nikon's Lindsay Silverman ran the show.

Thanks to the Exif header of these files, we're able to tell you we shot with a Nikon D80 and a 16-85mm f3.5-5.6 zoom. We saved them as Raw+JPEG files.

We also had a D300 and 18-300mm zoom with us but we wanted to shoot with a consumer-level camera for a change. See how the other half lives, you know.

But we'd never edited them until this morning as our guests snored away with visions of turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes in their heads.

So we fantasized about opening the door to the studio and finding this shiny new Vespa sitting there waiting for us to slip the helmet on and go for a ride.

Come along. There's room for two.
