In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Christmas Past, Love Park, popular rentals, storytelling trends for 2018 and Fujifilm updates.
- Alan Taylor presents 35 images in Pictures of Christmas Past that will test your photo knowledge. Why, for example, does the fire in Photo 3 appear to the children like a Christmas tree?
- In TOP Photo Book of the Year 2017, Mike Johnston salutes Only Human, which compiles five decades of Judy Dater's work, which itself will be exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco from April 7 to Sept. 22, 2018. Unfortunately, the first printing was only 1,000 copies, so the title is hard to find.
- Love Park presents Jonathan Rentschler's black-and-white photos remembering the Philadelphia skateboarding park that was a victim of redevelopment.
- This time of year is "list time" and Zach Sutton does not disappoint with Most Popular Photography and Videography Gear Rented in 2017. Canon with a little Sony sprinkled in. What does that tell you?
- Paul Melcher has a list too: 18 Visual Storytelling Trends That Will Take Off in 2018 from 18 different people, including himself. Happy endings didn't make the list.
- Fujifilm has issued New Firmware Updates for the X-Pro2, X-T2 X100F, X-T20, as promised earlier this year.
