In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a Julieanne Kost slide show, Ming Thein's photographic rules, Kenji Toma's flowers, the New Apple Park, an iMac Pro review, the Wright Brothers, best new gear picks and the vindication of Andrea Polito.
- In Continuum -- 2017 the Year in Review, Julieanne Kost continues her annual slide show project which "yields interesting insights about where I am in my life and allows me to reflect upon the places that I've gone and the experiences that I've had."
- In Discussion Points: Photographic Rules, Ming Thein distinguishes between "man-imposed rules and those which are physiologically limited" before revealed his own guidelines.
- The Most Beautiful Flowers is Kenji Toma's homage to botanical illustrators. The photographs, which look like illustrations, are made with focus bracketing so every petal is in focus, like a drawing. The project is available in book form as The Most Beautiful Flowers as well.
- Derrick Story makes A Visit to the New Apple Park where "there's full-fledged visitor center that's open to the public." And a campus tour that uses an iPad that brings a gray, featureless model of the campus alive on the screen as you point the iPad around.
- Rene Ritchie offers his iMac Pro First Impressions: Beauty of a Beast. It's beautiful. It's powerful. But is it for you?
- In The Wright Brothers' First Flight Photo, Annotated, Tom Crouch revealed (some time ago)s the Wrights were "experienced amateur photographers" who owned the a Korona-V, made by the Gundlach Optical Co. that took the first photo "of the world's first airplane at the outset of its first flight."
- LensRentals offers its Staff Picks for the Best New Photography and Videography Gear of 2017.
- In Jury Finds Newlyweds Defamed Dallas Wedding Photographer Andrea Polito Over Album Cover Fee, the jury awarded a $1.08 million to the photographer defamed by a married couple who posted false statements in a social media smear campaign because they were unhappy about a surprise fee.
