7 February 2018

Olympus has introduced its PEN E-PL9, its latest compact Micro Four Thirds body featuring 4K video with an option to extract stills, 121-point contrast detection autofocus, built-in WiFi and always-on Bluetooth LE and 16 art filters.

Despite a few hands-on reviews, Olympus has not issued a news release on the E-PL9 and U.S. sellers do not list it for pre-ordering. Our brief report is culled from a collection of European news stories and subject to change.

It is, in short, one of the more bizarre product introductions we've witnessed in 20 years in this business.

  • 4K video recording to 30p with option to extract still
  • Built-in WiFi and Bluetooth LE (Low Energ)

Note that in the illustration above you can see that there is no data connection below the hotshoe for an electronic viewfinder.
