In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Anne Wilkes Tucker, Anja Niemi, stylized wedding photoshoots, checking a camera bag and Lloyd Chambers.
- In The Power of Pictures: Viewing History Through America's Library, James Estrin interviews Anne Wilkes Tucker about curating the Library of Congress exhibit for the Annenberg Space for Photography in Los Angeles. "I loved it, I got paid to sit in the Library of Congress and look at photographs. It was fabulous," she says.
- 'She Could Have Been a Cowboy' Exposes the Fine Line Between Reality and Illusion says it all about Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi's series now on view at the Steven Kasher Gallery in New York City. "The series shifts between her reality and imagination; a combination of what she is and what she wants to be," Niemi said.
- Danette Chappell asks, Are Stylized Photoshoots Hurting the Wedding Photography Industry?. They're bad for brides and photographers, she argues.
- What Happens When Airlines Run Out of Carry-On Space and You Have a Camera Bag?, a Reddit thread, offers some real world perspective on a growing problem. Our advice is simple. Never check your gear. If you can't juggle your gear to fit under your seat and the airline really can't accommodate you on that flight, take another flight. And do it with a smile on your face. You just saved thousands in damages.
- In a Note to Subscribers, Lloyd Chambers offers to extend the subscription of anyone who asks as a way to compensate for his absence as he recovers from a head injury. He'd gotten some blowback by, you guessed it, a non-subscriber. Get well, Lloyd.
