In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photographic evidence, nature conservation, real estate photography mistakes, more on the Zone System, photographic errors, a Doris Burke scrapbook and net neutrality rules to expire Monday.

  • In 'Tell Them I Was Not Afraid', Bret Stephens quotes the mother of Raya Mazin, whose memoir he took down from his shelf and finally read last week. He wanted to refresh his memory of events in German history that Alexander Gauland, a member of the Bundestag and co-leader of Alternative for Germany, had dismissed in a weekend speech. Despite the photographic evidence, ignorance still promises bliss. In an example closer to home, Boston Celtic point guard Kylie Irving still doesn't believe the earth is round. Despite, you know, the photographic evidence. Is photography losing its persuasive power?
  • On the other hand, Terry Stone interviews Nick Brandt on Nature Conservation and Photography. "I had the luck to have wealthy collectors of my photos who I was able to meet and persuade to donate to get outposts built and rangers hired and patrol vehicles bought," he tells her. "Once notorious long-term poachers were nabbed, that track record had a domino effect in terms of donations. Today, sales of some of my photographs contribute a decent chunk of the budget, but much less than it used to."
  • The Decorologist Kristie Barnette lists Six Things I Wish Real Estate Photographers Would Do. There are a few more in the comments, too.
  • Jim Kasson adds a third piece to his consideration of The Zone System and Digital Cameras. This time he rebuts Chris Johnson's The Practical Zone System for Film and Digital Photography, Sixth Edition.
  • Hans Hartman has published his 2018 Photo Print Buying Survey Study, the first in four years. The good news is that "U.S. Consumers very much still do order photo print products: in our survey of 1066 North American consumers, 69 percent report that they or their partner have ordered photo print products in the last 12 months."
  • In another repost, Ming Thein lists a few Avoidable Photographic Errors.
  • Joseph Atmonavage dives deep into the career of ABC broadcaster Doris Burke with photos and video of her playing days. A basketball scholarship to college changed her life.
  • In Net Neutrality Will Be Repealed Monday Unless Congress Takes Action, Jon Brodkin reports the rules that have leveled the playing field for information provides (like us) will expire on Monday if House Speaker Paul Ryan fails to schedule a vote that could preserve the broadband regulations. The Senate voted on May 16 to reverse the FCC's repeal of the rules but the House has failed to act.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
