In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Gianluca Federighi, a Burning Man plea, the Xpozer Mounting System, a Holga 60mm lens for our dSLR, revisiting the Canon 5D and a BorrowLenses discount.

  • Transumanza "is the Italian term for the ancient tradition of transhumance, which describes the seasonal movement of livestock between summer and winter pastures." Gianluca Federighi followed goats, sheep and cows along the ancient routes through the hills and woods of Tuscany. With a slow shutter speed of 1/12 second, he added a motion blur to capture the movement of the animals.
  • LensRentals pleads Please, Don't Take Our Photography and Video Gear to Burning Man. Dust storms and sweat from the heat manage to get inside the gear. "With an entire repair department working on thousands of pieces of gear, we've learned that weather-sealing is a bit of a marketing tool and not really indicative of any real standardized meaning."
  • Scott Kelby gets Glen Clark from BayPhoto Lab to explain his Xpozer Mounting System for large prints:
  • Kirk Tuck bought a Holga 60mm f8.0 Lens with a Nikon mount for $17 and "had a fun time shooting with it yesterday." Wonder what the used price is.
  • Robin Wong tries out a Canon 5D full frame to answer the question, "What if I started out with a Canon 5D instead of an Olympus Four Thirds system?"
  • Through Sunday, BorrowLenses is offering a $25 or 15 percent discount (whichever is greater) on rentals when you use the code FOCUS18.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
