The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science has announced the winners of its 2018 NatureScapes 'Clouds' photo competition. The annual photo competition celebrates nature through the art of photography, to inspire a greater appreciation and understanding of the natural world.

Hideaway. Max Woltman.

Of the 142 entries, judges selected 30 photos that "show clouds in many different forms and interpretations."

These are this year's winners:

  • First Place: Aguirre Spring by Tim Funk
  • Second Place: Hideaway by Max Woltman
  • Honorable Mention: Watching the Moon Rise by Paul Zeigler

Student winners were:

  • First Place: Retreating Storm, Standing Bow by Vera Berger
  • Second Place: Clouds and Ancients by Leo Unzicker
  • Honorable Mention: Fences Can't Keep Out Flames by Colin Ross

The winning 2018 NatureScapes photographs will be displayed at the museum from Oct. 20 through Jan. 27, 2019.

Winners Announced for NatureScapes 'Clouds' Photo Competition

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The photos are in, the judging is complete and the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science is announcing the winners of this year's Naturescapes photo competition. This year, the theme was CLOUDS and photographers explored the entire state to find clouds everywhere.

Congratulations to all the photographers who participated in our annual photo competition, NatureScapes.

This year, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science received 142 entries. Of those, the competition judges were able to select 30 photos that show clouds in many different forms and interpretations.

Prizes will be awarded on Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., during the exhibit opening and members preview.

The winning 2018 NatureScapes photographs will be displayed from Oct. 20 through Jan. 27, 2019.
