Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 265th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Phones Are Good.

Director of Photography Mauro Chiarello posted this two-and-a-half minute video advertising British cellular provider Three -- and that's about all we should say about it. Otherwise we risk ruining the fun.

And it is fun.

The clip challenges the backlash against smartphone culture by suggesting it might have changed the course of history given the chance.

We won't tell you which historical events the clip rewrites but we will point out that the production is lavish, the cast extensive and the plot hilarious.

It took no less than 16 computer graphics artists to complete it. They were probably laughing too hard to edit their sequences in a timely manner or six of them would have been enough.

Of course several of these arguments rely on the camera in smartphones.

So you might say without stretching the truth very far that this clip shows how photography itself could have altered the past, given the chance.
