In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at funny animal photos, Photoshop tips, Irix 150mm macro lens, Canon Pro 100 printing problems, a payment debate and out-of-date applications.
- Ellyn Kail reviews a book of Funny Animal Photos compiled from the annual Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
- In Five Must-Know Photoshop Tips and Tricks for Photographers, Jesús Ramirez list a few "techniques that most people probably don't know, but are very useful and they can help you speed up your workflow." The first one especially.
- Harold Davis shows off his new Irix 150mm 'Dragonfly' Macro. The $600 1:1 macro includes a functional tripod collar with an Arca-mount foot that lets you easily switch from horizontal to vertical.
- Derrick Story found a workaround for macOS Mojave's Canon Pro 100 Printing Problems. But as he says, "What really needs to happen is for Canon and Apple to get their heads together and fix this problem." Before foisting it on their customers, we'd add.
- Ben Lovejoy presents both sides of The Debate on Whether Apple Should Pay for 'Shot on iPhone' Photos. It's a debate? Of course they should compensate photographers for the use of their work. Even worse, though, the company insists on exclusive commercial use without compensation.
- Help Net Security lists the Most Out of Date Applications. "More than half (55 percent) of PC applications installed worldwide are out-of-date, making PC users and their personal data vulnerable to security risks," it finds.
