In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Robert Frank, Sam Youkilis, Shin Noguchi, Greg Kahn, off-camera lighting, greeting cards, Nikkor lens rebates and Google+.
- In The Unseen Robert Frank: Outtakes From 'The Americans', Jordan Teicher presents a few of the lesser-known images Frank captured as he traveled the country on a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1955.
- In Sam Youkilis Photographs the Strangeness of Travel, Stephanie Wade showcases the spare South American images of the New York photographer.
- One Two Three documents Shin Noguchi's family photographs. "The most extraordinary moments exist in your daily life. The question is whether or not you can find or see these them," he says.
- In Beyond Cigars and Vintage Cars, Mark Murrman takes a look at Havana Youth, the debut photobook by Greg Kahn. When Kahn showed his subjects his photos, they told him,"You get it. You're not photographing us like we're in a fishbowl. This feels like it comes from us. This feels like who we are."
- Ming Thein covers Off-Camera Lighting 101: The 'Five Things' with a brief but comprehensive approach to setting up artificial lighting.
- In Designing Your Own Greeting Cards in Photos for macOS Mojave, Derrick Story points out a serious pitfall of the latest revision. Like not being able to proof your new design on your inkjet or even create a PDF of it.
- Thom Hogan provides his perspective on the New Nikkor Lens Rebates.
- Shutting Down Google+ for Consumer (Personal) Accounts on April 2 explains what's going away and when. Your Google+ Photos are not going away. Sharing our stories on Google+ via the icon on the headline will go away. And so will the icon. We recommend using one of our other feeds. The LinkedIn feed most resembles what we highlight in our Google+ feed but the others are more thorough.
More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
