In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Syria, Elina Zolotareva, Fabian Oefner, astrophotography, the Nikon 105mm and free Photoshop/Lightroom tutorials.

  • In Closing in on the Last ISIS Stronghold, Alan Taylor presents 26 photos of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces fighting in eastern Syria and the civilians trying to escape.
  • Elina Zolotareva's Wild Bohemian Style highlights the work of the photographer and graphic designer based in Thailand who also contributes to Adobe Stock. "My aesthetic is about freedom and beauty, femininity and depth. My favorite style is boho, with a lot of nature mixed in," she says.
  • Fabian Oefner took nearly two years to photograph a Disintegrating Miura, part by part.:
  • In Getting Started in Deep Space and Astrophotography, Phoenix photographer Bray Falls provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges and rewards of this specialty. Don't get bored, he advises. "Over time your tolerance for sticking with one object will increase and your images will improve significantly."
  • In Revisiting the Legendary Nikon 105mm on a PEN-F, Derrick Story highlights one of the delights of Micro Four Thirds photography: using a variety optics. A $22 adapter is all it took for him to enjoy his 105mm classic on his Olympus body for a 210mm equivalent focal range. And he does enjoy it.
  • Jesus Ramirez has published several free Photoshop Tutorials as well as a course on Lightroom Photo Editing Workflow.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
