In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Alec Soth, Kent Andreasen, stacking photographs in Lightroom, flying with lithium-ion batteries and a 10-TB external drive.
- In A Year of Quiet Contemplation Led to the Rebirth of Alec Soth's Photography, Jordan Teicher describes the photographer's "year of quiet contemplation" before deciding to capture "the quietness and lyricism of people residing in their own homes."
- In Kent Andreasen's Cinematic Photography Establishes His Talent With Color, Stephanie Wade presents a selection of the work of the South African photographer that portrays a different Africa than current western perceptions.
- Julieanne Kost explains the benefits of Stacking Photographs in Lightroom Classic. And how to do it in Grid view.
- The U.S. Dept. of Transportation has announced a Major Rule to Strengthen Safety Provisions for Lithium Batteries Transported by Aircraft. The rule "prohibits the transport of lithium-ion cells or batteries as cargo on passenger aircraft" and "requires lithium ion cells and batteries to be shipped at not more than a 30 percent state of charge aboard cargo-only aircraft." You'll have to pack them in your carry-on.
- B&H has the WD 10-TB My Book for $180, which is a 30 percent discount. The My Book uses 256-bit AES hardware encryption and has a USB 3.0 interface.
