In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Brian Frank, Shawn Theodore, Sigma Art lenses, Photo Mechanic 6, child photography tips, the Kirk GFX 50R L-plate, editorial photography, agencies and Oracle Arena.
- 'Incarceration Helped Me Find My Voice', writes photographer Brian Frank, who has devoted himself to documenting young men in the criminal justice system.
- In Shawn Theodore's Captivating Work Is an Exploration of the African American Experience, Stephanie Wade presents a selection of the photographer's work. Theodore's mentor, she reports, is NYC hip hop photographer Jamel Shabazz who says of him, "His mastery of light and composition are evident in all of his stunning and insightful creations."
- Roger Cicala reports his MTF Results for Recent Sigma Art Lenses. He finds Sigma's attitude refreshing. "Sigma has made their attitude clear; size can be damned; we're going to make reasonably priced lenses with amazing image quality."
- Camera Bits has announced Photo Mechanic 6 will be released on March 25 with faster browsing, 64-bit,a streamlined UI and more.
- Newborn and child photographer Tracy Sweeney offers Five Tips to Capture Authentic Moments in Child Photography. Based on the premise that you can't fool kids.
- Jim Kasson received a Kirk GFX 50R L-Plate. And once he got it out of the death grip of its packaging, he liked it.
- Jenni Carless talks to some luminaries to identify Trends in Editorial Photography. There are a lucky seven of them, in fact.
- Suzanne Sease has a list of Agencies to Put on Your Radar (If They Aren't Already). "We are in sales while being artists so it is important to get in front of the people who can hire you," she writes.
- Derrick Story bids a Farewell to Oracle Arena. He set his XF10 to black-and-white mode, ISO 3200, f2.8 and shot away at 28mm.
