In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at New Zealand, Patricia Davidson, a Holi palette, moody black-and-whites, equipment failure, the Think Tank Photo Vision 13 shoulder bag and a beginner's guide.

"As people mourn the 50 killed last Friday, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is calling for stricter national gun laws and says she will seek answers from social-media companies about the live-streaming and dissemination of video of the attack," he writes.
