In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Nadav Kander, Cyclone Idai, Brian Otieno, Govert De Roos, the Northern Lights, the Flower Super-Bloom, the Olympus ZD 25/1.2 Pro and Picture Methods.
- In Nadav Kander Photographs the Yangtze River, a Watercourse Under Major Threat, Stephanie Wade examines the Israeli photographer's series depicting the fast-changing landscape of Asia's longest river from mouth to source.
- Alan Taylor presents 35 images of The Aftermath of Cyclone Idai in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
- In An Insider's View of Joy and Beauty in Africa's Biggest Shantytown, Finbarr O'Reilly interviews Brian Otieno about his Kibera Stories project, which shows a more complete picture of his hometown.
- Govert De Roos remembers taking a photo of John Lennon and Yoko Ono at their famous Bed-In for Peace in Amsterdam 50 years ago:
- In Shooting the Lights, David Williams reveals the camera settings he uses for capturing the Northern Lights, which are "not dissimilar to shooting waterfalls actually in its concept." Five seconds max and manual focus.
- Lloyd Chambers has been shooting the Flower Super-Bloom in Carrizo Plain National Monument. "It is the best I’ve seen it in about 12 years," he writes.
- Robin Wong is running a long-term field test of the Olympus ZD 25/1.2 Pro.
- Olympus Visionary and professional wildlife photographer Scott Bourne has launched Picture Methods, a free photography blog with supporting podcast to help photographers exercise their creative spirit, learn new techniques and find inspiration.
