In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Shahidul Alam, Rwanda, Sony FE mount primes, processing Raw files, stock photography, a gate on Gilman, Julieanne Kost, HDR, ScanMyPhotos and Pixelmator Photo.
- Despite Prison and Torture, Shahidul Alam Refuses to Stay Quiet reports David Gonzalez who recently interviewed Alam. "It doesn't really matter what you're photographing, make sure that you do it with respect and with dignity," Alam advises.
- Alan Taylor presents 14 photos in Rwandans Commemorate 25 Years Since Genocide as a 100-day period of mourning begins in the country.
- In Just MTF Charts: Sony FE Mount Prime Lenses Roger Cicala continues his series. This installment covers Sony FE mount, Zeiss Batis and Loxia lenses.
- Tom Hogan exposes The Raw Fallacy. He suggests Michael Tapes' free Raw to JPEG software as insurance. We've explained how to roll your own with ExifTool and Keyboard Maestro in How to Extract a JPEG From a Raw File.
- In The Truth About Stock Photography, Rachel Lerch discusses "making money, earnings amounts, best agencies, the real investment, images that sell, acceptances and rejections and my biggest objection to everything."
- Harold Davis found a Wisteria Gate on Gilman (we know it well) and converted it to a watercolor.
- Terri Stone details How Julieanne Kost Created 'Colors of Place' in nine steps. Includes an eight-minute video.
- In HDR in One File, David Williams shows a few Camera Raw settings to go from "a fairly bland shot" to an "HDR look from a single exposure."
- Greg Scoblete reports ScanMyPhotos.com Lowers Prices for Photo Scans.
- The Pixelmator Team tweets, "The big day is here. Pixelmator Photo is now available from the App Store!" And John Voorhees reviews it.
