In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Notre Dame, AOP awards, color toning methods, the Ezybox Speed-Lite plus Henry Diltz and Mick Rock.
- Alan Taylor presents 16 photos of The Devastation of Notre Dame Cathedral. The Los Angeles Times adds a 15-image slide show with the news that part of the Paris icon is saved thanks perhaps to the stone vault just below the roof. And Harold Davis has reprised some of his favorite images of the cathedral as well as a link to a charity accepting donations to rebuild it. Finally, Mike Johnston has published a photo by Peter Turnley of the cathedral the morning after the fire. "Notre Dame lives! She is injured, but alive," Turnley writes.
- The Guardian has published photos from The Association of Photographers' Awards. There are 250 photos on display at the AOP Awards Exhibition in London through May 31.
- Julieanne Kost continues her 3, 2, 1 Photoshop series with Three Color Toning Methods, which she demonstrates in just two minutes:
- Joe McNally shows why the Ezybox Speed-Lite Two Plus soft box is The Best Little Light Shaper. The 8.7-inch square diffuser fits on a shoe-mounted strobe.
- The Morrison Hotel Gallery's Behind the Lens series will feature music photographers Henry Diltz and Mick Rock at the Concert Hall at the New York Society for Ethical Culture on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $40, $45 and $50.
