In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photos of the week, Garry Winogrand in color, the Panasonic G9, a Sony APS-C lens set, Derrick Story interviewed, pro skills and travel photography jobs.

  • Alan Taylor's weekly curation highlights 35 images, including photos of German Asparagus, Traffic Zebras, Enormous Bear. Wonderful wonders all.
  • Balasz Takac previews Garry Winogrand's Rarely Seen Color Photos which can currently be seen at the Brooklyn Museum. He found the color film of the era a perfect match for the color merchandise of the era.
  • In Custom Modes to the Rescue!, Mike Johnston sets up three configurations on his Panasonic G9. He also recently conquered its sensitive shutter button with a bit of brute force.
  • Thom Hogan lists his preferred Sony APS-C Lens Set. For primes, he prefers Sigma to Sony.
  • Don Komarechka interviews Derrick Story on his weekly one-hour podcast. The discussion ranges "from industrial sensors to software advancements, old-is-new niches and the decline of the public perception of 'photographers'."
  • On that latter note, Kirk Tuck explains to a delivery guy that photographers have not "gone the way of telephone operators, rest room attendants and full service gas stations." There are still clients who need someone who "knows how to light stuff ... with lights." Like the 4x7-foot sheet of stainless steel the guy delivered.
  • Lisa Michelle Burns lists Seven Travel Photography Jobs plus a few tips for becoming a travel photographer.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
